summary

Mara Dyer is a normal teenage girl until one night. The night her best friend Rachel, Rachel’s friend Claire, and Mara’s boyfriend Jude are in a building and it collapses. Everyone dies except Mara miraculously survives without so much as a scratch. Strange.

She and her family move to get away from the haunting memories except why can’t Mara remember anything that happened that night?

After moving, Mara meets a mysterious boy who seems to know quite lot about her, more than he is letting her know. His life is hidden away and he’s not as picture perfect as he looks or as everyone sees him as.  However, he is irresistible to Mara.

Mara starts hallucinating and she thinks she is going crazy. Are all of her friends dead after all or has Mara hit rock bottom? Is there an explanation behind all of this?

review

I absolutely loved The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. It was suspenseful, irresistible, drama-filled, intriguing, and dark. This book has it all!

I loved Michelle Hodkin’s writing style, it was really well done and nice and clean. It had a fresh feel to it. Throughout reading this first book out of the trilogy, I got to know the characters exceptionally well as you should in most books but there were just little hints that were added to create a new question about the character. Like, what is their life like?

Michelle Hodkin wrote this book incredibly well and created the perfect image of the whole world of Mara Dyer in my mind. The idea of this book was amazing, the plot twists and page-turners which pretty much sums up the whole book!

I rarely find books that I can read for hours on end and finish in the space of around two days, but this book surprised me! However, it says for ages ’14 Up’ but there was a huge amount of profanity which really doesn’t suit the suggested age group. In my opinion I’d say 15 up because I hate swearing and if this book wasn’t so good, I’d put it down immediately. So, I would recommend The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer for teens around fifteen and up who love a good, dark, fantasy romance novel!
